ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, August 24th 2013 [ME NewsWire]The Ministry of Interior is boosting its child protection efforts by implementing a number of initiatives and projects across the nation.
Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, said that the UAE has made great progress in the child protection field. He reiterated that the procedures followed by the Child Protection Department at the Ministry of Interior have been in place since its launch and have been upheld successfully through cooperation and partnership with various relevant institutions in the state.
He praised the continuous support and commitment of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, in all matters that benefit children and achieve HH’s visions to make the UAE a cultural center and an example in the region for enhancing protection and the security of children. This is achieved through many procedures undertaken that promote security and safety in society.
The Secretary General valued the cooperation between the General Headquarters in the Ministry of Interior and their participation in applying the vision and goals across the nation in an effort to enhance child protection.
The above was included in his statement during the first meeting for liaison officers for child protection, which included the police headquarters in the state. The meeting was held in the Ministry of Interior Center for Child Protection.
Participants in the meeting represented departments of investigations and criminal investigations of level B, and departments of social support and human rights in addition to crime scene representatives, administration of operations, and leadership and control. The meeting forms continuity for the program to build capabilities and unify procedures.
The meeting, which was headed by Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Mohammed Al Shammari, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center, tackled preparations to execute the “table” practice. It will be held next year on the federal level to evaluate the efficiency of current work procedures that are specific for investigation in child cases.
The meeting discussed the guidelines of investigation procedures with regard to aggression and neglect cases that might take place against children. It also covered the training programs that the General Secretary and Director of the Child Protection Department in the Ministry of Interior requested to build required capacities and experiences in order to achieve the highest levels of police performance and apply the best international practices.
The three programs will be distributed over three levels; the first one covers an introduction to child protection, the second one addresses the means of accomplishment, and the third tackles the planning and preparation to meet with child victims, investigation, and mutual work.
The meeting included discussions on the child meeting room project that will include the latest technologies for special meetings and provide these services for concerned units. It is one of the potentials to unify procedures on the state level. The meeting also addressed other programs that are planned and prepared in connection with the prevention of child injuries.
Lt. Colonel Faisal Al Shammari thanked the liaison officers for their efforts underscoring the importance of their role in the lateral coordination in the headquarters between specialized units as well as vertically on the level of the Ministry of Interior.
The Director of the Child Protection Center in the Ministry of Interior reiterated the commitment and attention that the General Secretary of the Child Protection Department in the Ministry of Interior grants for different projects and initiatives related to child protection. He noted that the Ministry of Interior is supporting and preparing for a social program that shall be executed by different institutions across the nation to provide parents and child care service providers with the opportunity to build potential, and gain skills and expertise that enhance children safety. This program is in place to decrease injuries due to traffic accidents, fires, falling from balconies, drowning, poisoning, and many other preventable childhood accidents.
It is important to note that the social program will cover the entire nation and allow parents and child care service providers in the country to participate in organized workshops focusing on preventing injuries, and responding with best practices. All of the above will be available through workshops dedicated to take into consideration multilingualism and different cultural factors for those taking care of children in the UAE.
