MoI Organizes Forum for Borders and Ports Officers

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Friday, August 30th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Ministry of Interior represented by the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Sharjah organized the Borders and Ports Law Enforcement Officers Forum in Radisson SAS Hotel, Sharjah. The Forum was inaugurated by Colonel Salem Ali Al Muzaini, Acting Director General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Sharjah.

Colonel Al Muzaini emphasized that the Forum is an opportunity to exchange expertise by reviewing numerous experiences in border points’ protection. It also boosts legislative, procedural and technical efforts to secure borders.

“The world is witnessing rapid global changes and successive technological developments. In light of this technical revolution, it is our duty to find new work mechanisms and develop legislation by exchanging experiences with other world states, with a view to support ports security and promote border protection efforts,” noted Colonel Al Muzaini.

The two-day forum reviewed several experiences in the field of borders and ports protection. Captain Abdullah Mohammed Al Mutawa, Director of the Training and Travel Documents Inspection Center at the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai; Frederick Kinney from the Canadian Consulate-General in Dubai; Leon Zeldenrust from the Dutch Consulate-General in Dubai; and Bernd Kaiser from the German Consulate-General in Dubai, gave a detailed overview of the roles and tasks carried out by the contact team on regional migration.

The forum also highlighted the team’s prominent achievements; the mechanisms that regulate its work; the services and scientific courses organized by the team inside and outside the country; as well as its coordination with the relevant government institutions and private travel companies operating in the State.

For his part, Colonel Abdullah Ali Al Hosani, Head of the Security Policies and Standards Department at the Directorate General of Ports and Airports, the Ministry of Interior, presented a work paper on the security strategy and its role in enhancing safety and security of ports, airports and land ports. He also shed light on the strategic plans relative to the air, sea and land ports.

“The devices that have been mounted at border points across the country are instrumental in enhancing security measures,” indicated Colonel Al Hosani.

Furthermore, he reviewed the organizational structure of the General Directorate of Ports and Airports, as well as the specialized courses organized yearly for staff members, underscoring the security measures adopted at the country’s various ports.

It is noteworthy that the forum also reviewed a number of work papers that focused on visa systems, the modern methods and techniques in fraud detection at border crossings, and other relevant topics. The participants also visited the Sharjah International Airport’s Passport Control Section.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a large number of officers from the Directorates General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs across the State.
