ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Friday, March 4th 2016 [ME NewsWire]
Participants in the Ministry of Interior’s Council hosted by UAE national Saeed Mohammed Al Rumaithi at his residence in Al Ain urged community members to report all kinds of crimes within the framework of social responsibility. The participants noted that such an approach would strengthen partnership between the police and community members, avoid legal accountability, and assist security entities to discharge their duties.
Participants in the council also called for promoting educational programs targeting domestic workers and coordinating with embassies and recruitment agencies to raise domestic workers’ awareness about the UAE laws, customs and social traditions. This would have a positive impact on reducing the rate of crimes, especially by expats.
The council, which was moderated by media personality Khalifa Al Kaabi, is part of the awareness councils organized by the Law Respect Culture Bureau, in cooperation with the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. During the council, the attendees tackled the role of community members in reporting crimes and the need to promote social responsibility.
In his address on the occasion, Colonel Mohammed Suhail Al Rashidi, Director of Al Ain Police Directorate, underscored the valuable role of the public in crime reporting. “There is a widespread belief among individuals that combating crime is the sole responsibility of law enforcement agencies and the police, he said. Furthermore, Colonel Al Rashidi stressed the importance of activating partnership between all parties to curb crimes.
Colonel Al Rashidi highlighted the essential and vital role assumed by the public and the community in reporting crimes. “This is a key factor in eradicating and fighting against crime”, he noted. He also pointed out to the significant role of the Law Respect Culture Bureau in boosting awareness of community members, especially in labor camps, which would contribute to decreasing the number of offenses and crimes.
For his part, Colonel Salem Khalfan Al Shamesi, Deputy Director of Al Ain Police Directorate, tackled the different challenges facing police bodies, with more than 200 nationalities co-existing in the UAE. He noted that the police leadership has developed a strategic security plan to combat all forms of crimes.
Major Ahmed Aylan Al Muhairi, Head of the Community Police Section, emphasized that the Community Police assumes a preventive and educational role. “The Community Police implements its plans through a series of elaborate and programmed steps, in coordination with all relevant agencies and national institutions,” he said.
Adding further, Major Al Muhairi explained that the Community Police provide policing and community services to the public, in line with its efforts to reinforce its social role and achieve a quantum leap in the concept of community outreach. “This approach aims to promote the police presence, being available and accessible to provide services and assistance to members of the public, and directly interacting with them, so as to identify and cater to their needs, avail of the human and social relations, and establish pillars of communication with the public, with a view to support the police's efforts to provide the finest social and policing services,” concluded Major Al Muhairi.
