(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Arab Health Exhibition and Congress — Welch Allyn, a leading medical diagnostic device company that specializes in helping clinicians improve patient outcomes, will demonstrate connected device solutions chosen by Sidra Medical and Research Center,a new 388-bed, ultra-modern, digital academic medical center in Doha, Qatar, at Arab Health 2013in Dubai. Medical equipment planners from Sidra chose Welch Allyn connected devices to provide remedies to common healthcare issues like inaccuracy, poor data management and inefficient workflow. Several of the solutions that will be installed at Sidra, including the Connex® Integrated Wall Systemand the Connex Electronic Vitals Documentation (EVD) System, will be on display at the Welch Allyn booth in hall S1B50. The company’s new FlexiPort® EcoCuff™ and iExaminer™will also be showcased.

“Sidra’s medical equipment planners recognize that our solutions help improve common issues in existing healthcare facilities like data transmission errors, time spent on documenting vital signs and patient safety,” said Pascal Gand, vice president, South and East Region, and Europe and Middle East Channel Marketing at Welch Allyn. “The technology we build into our products is derived from clinicians’ demands to help provide the best possible care for their patients and most productive work environment for staff. We are delighted Sidra chose Welch Allyn solutions to help them capture and manage patient data at their new facility and achieve and maintain the best international standards in medicine.”

Once installed, the Welch Allyn Connex EVD System at Sidra will capture, document and transmit patient vital signs immediately to an electronic medical record (EMR) as they are measured. This solution enables improvements in patient safety and clinical decision making by helping to reduce the risk for routine data transcription errors. Included in the Connex EVD System is the Welch Allyn Connex® Vital Signs Monitor (VSM), a full-color, touch-screen device that provides comprehensive patient vitals documentation on a single display. This documentation includes automatic measurements such as heart rate, blood pressure, temperature and pulse oximetry and can also capture manual parameters such as respiration, height, weight and pain level and modifiers such as body position, O2 therapy details and others.

“Sidra was designed and built not only to provide world class patient care, but to be stewards to the environment as well,” said Hisham Hout, senior vice president, Europe and Middle East, at Welch Allyn. “Our solutions that will be installed at Sidra are an excellent fit with its paperless philosophy, which aims to operate the facility wirelessly and without paper. We are confident the Welch Allyn products that will be part of this healthcare facility will provide long-lasting, reliable improvements to its overall workflow.”

The Welch Allyn display at Arab Health will also feature the new FlexiPort EcoCuff, a single-patient-use, disposable blood pressure cuff that helps to reduce costs, cross-contamination and environmental impact. Designed to have 60 percent less environmental impact than a traditional blood pressure cuff, the EcoCuff uses less material volume; is made with 100 percent polypropylene material; and does not contain harmful chemicals such as BPA or DEHP, which are commonly found in other blood pressure cuffs. And, as part of the line of FlexiPort blood pressure cuffs, the EcoCuff uses a single-point connection that enables virtually any device to work with the cuff without the need for traditional tubes and connectors.

The company will also showcase the Welch Allyn iExaminer™at Arab Health. The new product integrates the advanced eye exam technology of the Welch Allyn PanOptic™ Ophthalmoscope with a hardware adapter and application for the iPhone® to make remote eye imaging possible and help improve patient knowledge and compliance, another ill facing the healthcare industry. The PanOptic features patented optical technology that creates a viewing area of the fundus and retinal nerve in an undilated pupil that is 5 times larger than that of a traditional ophthalmoscope and increases magnification by 26 percent to more easily see retinal details. Now available in select international markets, the iExaminer rapidly captures and transmits the retinal images created by the PanOptic for easy, cost-effective eyeground image documentation and allows physicians to save images to a patient file, as well as e-mail and print the images to share with patients and colleagues.
