Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Confiscates Vehicles with Old and Indistinctive Number Plates

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, November 26th 2013 [ME NewsWire]
The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police decided to ban cars with old plates and new plates that have indistinctive numbers on Abu Dhabi roads. The Directorate noted that these kinds of plates are no longer valid; it further noted that anyone using these plates will be held legally responsible. The car will be confiscated and the driver will be legally detained for his violation based on the penal code stated in the Federal Traffic Law.

Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police, pointed out that inspection campaigns have been intensified to detect these vehicles on internal and external roads in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region. The vehicles will be seized even if the insurance documents are valid due to the invalidity of the license plates.

The campaign aims to subject these vehicles to technical inspections that clarify how adequate the car is for driving, so that it does not endanger traffic safety measures. The campaign falls within the framework of the Ministry of Interior’s priority to make roads safer; it is also a part of the Abu Dhabi Police’s strategy to limit traffic accidents that can result in deaths and severe injuries.

Al Harithi asserted the Traffic and Patrols Directorate will not be tolerant in enforcing the law against motorists whose cars are not valid. He also stressed that motorists no longer have any excuse for not having a new license plate as the Abu Dhabi Police has given enough time to make the necessary changes.

He explained that license plate validity is an essential part of ensuring road safety reiterating that safety is the foundation for driving on UAE roads.

He urged those whose vehicles with old Abu Dhabi plates to visit a Service Center at the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department in Abu Dhabi to change the plates in order to avoid violations and vehicle confiscation. He encouraged all drivers whose license plates are indistinctive to refer to Service Centers at the Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department to replace them with new clear plates.
