Middle East Launch for All-New Peugeot 2008 at DIMS 2013

New dynamic urban Crossover to be rolled out in the Middle East following successful track record in initial launch markets

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Monday, November 25th 2013

Peugeot unveiled its all-new 2008 dynamic urban Crossover at the Dubai International Motor Show 2013, buoyed by the model's sales soaring steadily throughout its initial launch markets. Coming on the heels of the 301's local runaway success, the 2008 appears all set to become the marque's second game-changer launch in the Middle East in less than six months.

Building on the success of the 3008 Crossover, Peugeot has capitalized on its expertise to create an innovative vehicle for the B segment. The 2008 will be available in the Middle East's markets following its launch at the DIMS, joining the brand's new dynamic offensive successfully initiated by the 208, and further comforted by the 301's achievements, with the latter having just clinched the coveted prize of 'Best Small Sedan' at the Middle East Motor Awards 2013' last October 29.

With the 2008, Peugeot has answered this segment's customer expectations by designing the first urban Crossover that brings an easy, innovative and enhanced driving experience. The cockpit is structured around the small steering wheel, combining intuitive high-level instrumentation and a large, 7" touch-screen whose technology minimizes commands for audio/navigation needs. The driver can also count on the cruise control-speed limiter, standard on all versions, chassis adjustments and on a range of high-standard equipment which combine to create a technological alliance never experienced to date, designed to integrate an impressive safety level with an easy, pleasurable driving experience.

All versions of the 2008 are fitted as standard with ESP, which can be disconnected up to 50km/h (30mph), and combines several functions: anti-skid regulation (ASR), stability control (CDS), emergency braking assistance (EBA) and electronic brake force distribution (EBFD). These functions act on four brake discs regardless of the version chosen. However, they are adapted to the different engines for improved performance and durability characteristics. The ventilated discs come therefore in two different sizes at front: 266 x 22mm and 283 x 26mm for the most powerful versions. At the rear, the range is equipped with non-ventilated discs of 249 x 9mm.

The 2008 has benefited from an intelligent structure of its volumes, offering unparalleled visibility and boot space. At the top of the range, the panoramic glass roof, fitted with its electric shutter, allows natural light into the passenger compartment. When switched on, night-time LED guides emit a dimmed blue light. However, even in its steel roof version, the 2008 offers a unique light signature. In fact, it innovates with a roof adorned with motifs of a very precise design obtained by laser engraving.

Speaking at the launch, in the presence of the French ambassador to the UAE, Philippe Geze, Peugeot's head for Europe, Middle East and Africa, stressed that the 2008 had been designed with the objective of taking its segment by storm on a global basis. "We listened to customer demands throughout our target markets, and the result is a truly new concept - a bold, modern, urban SUV that combines the elegance and dynamism of our latest hatchbacks, but also embodies the driving pleasure, dynamism and strength of a Crossover with the versatility of a small vehicle with large volume", he said.

Adding to the high expectations Peugeot has for the 2008, Jamal Sahl, head of Peugeot's Middle East Regional Office, highlighted that this new model integrates the marque's successful track record in the region over the past years. "We have achieved an extremely strong performance over the past years with the introduction of the RCZ, 508, 208 and 301, whose sales have overshot targets to give us growth figures as impressive as 53% year on year in the GCC. The 2008 will be a key factor in making sure this dynamic is not only maintained but even surpassed".

In separate remarks, Mr. Krishnakumar Shetty, deputy general manager of Swaidan Trading, expressed his optimism as to the 2008's affinity with UAE customers. "I am in no doubt that the 2008's generous comfort and safety features, within an extremely stylish design, will generate an enthusiastic response from our customers, both in the retail and fleet segments, as it offers extremely good value for money. We are also upgrading our after-sales operations in our two Dubai centres to ensure the Peugeot experience is both pleasurable and seamless."

Following its DIMS unveiling, the 2008 will be rolled out in the GCC over the coming months.
