The Security Media aircraft was highly acclaimed by visitors of the International Security and National Resilience Exhibition “ISNR Abu Dhabi 2014” wishing to learn about the unmanned wireless drone for aerial photography that was put into service in 2010. It was touted as a quantum leap in the security media work, as it helped in reporting events in hard to reach areas, as well as filming traffic accidents, fires and major events with high precision.

The drone provides live broadcast pictures via a specialized system linked to the security media patrols, which broadcasts directly to the Operations Room. It keeps leaders abreast of the events as they develop and allows them to make the proper decisions. It is also used to monitor traffic on the emirate’s roads, and is fitted with a remote control, a camera, and high-quality technologies to film any incident, day and night with high accuracy. It has a storage capacity to save photographs and videos that can be easily retrieved when needed.

Captain Jamal Al Hosani, Chief of Technical Affairs Section at the General Secretariat of the Office of H. H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior said that the project personifies the police leadership’s vision, which calls for leveraging modern technology to improve the capabilities and skills of police personnel working in the media, and  enhance security and stability using the latest cutting-edge methods, as well as promote police work in a way that aligns  with the UAE government’s vision

Captain Al Hosani noted that the drone is a new addition to the Security Media Department’s work methodology, which focuses on leveraging modern devices and techniques, as well as the “security media patrols”, to establish the MoI’s methodology. This would promote the ministry’s media message transparency and facilitate the work of media outlets, by providing them with images and videos of the events that are related to their field of work, in a way that maintains the safety of cameramen.

Captain Al Hosani added: “The wireless drone, in addition to the security media patrols, helps in developing the Ministry of Interior’s media approach, as well as in documenting security-related events. It also provides support to the various media outlets by focusing on the quality of the filmed material, based on the latest technological and human resources. It also supports media coverage of police events by providing media outlets with more inclusive and faster picture and video material.”
