Abu Dhabi Police Launch “Be a Paramedic” Campaign for Governmental Institution Employees


To Promote Public Safety Procedures

Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters launched the “Be a Paramedic” campaign for the employees of governmental institutions. The campaign introduces the conditions and procedures for public safety, the risks of household and traffic incidents, fires, and cases of choking, slipping, or drowning. The campaign also explains how to handle injuries and reduce complications resulting from accidents, heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, and other medical conditions; and it also teaches the proper procedures for calling an ambulance and how to provide accurate descriptions of the location.

This campaign, carried out by the Emergency and Public Safety Department through the community ambulance team, will train governmental employees throughout the emirate of Abu Dhabi on how to administer first aid to those who may be injured or sick.

Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations, said that the campaign is a subset of the work systems that Abu Dhabi Police have in the field of ambulance services. Educating members of society in first aid may help save people’s lives if they have been injured in accidents or are dealing with sudden health conditions that require the hasty administration of first aid. He pointed out that this establishes the concept of first aid in a manner that showcases the importance of learning and mastering these skills, and perhaps these learned individuals may inspire others to learn and thus be able to administer first aid when necessary.

Major General Al Raisi also added that the campaign will focus on both spectrums of public awareness and education. He pointed out that teaching individuals how to administer first aid depends on the provision of awareness about the dangers of accidents, and a culture of first aid can be introduced through various topics.  “We will be able to provide qualified and capable members from all walks of life who are able to administer first aid to those who are injured or sick, and additionally know how to respond to household incidents, traffic accidents, and cases of drowning, fire, or other occurrences,” he said.

He continued by stating that the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Police, through the provision of various ambulance services by the Emergency and Public Safety Department, correspond with the national agenda of the UAE in becoming the safest country in the world within the next seven years. “We want to handle all emergency calls within four minutes only, and through education and public awareness about first aid, the ambulance staff will be enabled to promptly save those who have been injured and prevent complications during response time,” Major General Al Raisi said.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Ibrahim Al Ameri, Director of the Emergency and Public Safety Department at the Abu Dhabi Police, explained that the employees of governmental institutions in Abu Dhabi will be taught about the roles of the community ambulance, which are intended to reduce response times and keep injured persons stable until the ambulance arrives. He also explained how to properly contact the operation rooms, how to accurately pinpoint the location of the accident, minimize false reports that affect response time and the promotion of ambulance services, expand the circle of awareness among all segments of society,  and enhance their understanding concerning the importance of the community ambulance. “These steps embody the federal government’s vision of reducing response time. Public awareness and education about how to administer first aid are integral in saving the lives of those who are injured, as the right procedure administered by a capable person in first aid can save lives,” he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Al Ameri mentioned that the campaign will focus on the topics of accidents, which include how to stabilize an injured person, provide airways, manage fractures and bleeding, handle instances of choking, and how to reduce injury complications by securing the patient’s backbone. The campaign will additionally focus on laborers and first aid, which will educate them on how to call for an ambulance, provide accurate locations and information, assess the condition of the injured person, and how to manage broken bones, handle burns and choking accidents.

The campaign will also address household incidents and preventive measures, how to reduce risks, handle incidents should they occur, and how to call for help in different cases of household accidents. The campaign will explain the steps of calling an ambulance, and will additionally focus on health conditions and how to handle cases of heart attacks, strokes and diabetes.  First aid for children will also be addressed within the campaign, as it is important to emphasize how to deal with accidents that may involve children.
