PTE 2013: MATERNA ips presents its innovative check-in app, the latest Self Bag Drop generation and Self Boarding - in conjunction with Gunnebo - which is ready for biometric facial recognition

DORTMUND, Germany - Wednesday, April 3rd 2013 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- As the leading provider of Integrated Passenger Services, Materna ips is once again at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Geneva this year (9-11 April 2013). Numerous new products relating to convenient, efficient passenger processing will be presented for the specialist public for the first time on the Materna stand (Stand 5100).

This year's visitors can find out not only about the traditional CUSS kiosk check-in but also the new check-in app for tablet PCs. The app is compatible for all smartphones and tablets running Android or the Apple iOS operating system.

The check-in app can be used for a number of airlines. It has the following new functions, among others:

Saving personal data (e.g. frequent traveller, passport, credit card) on the device if the user wishes. The app can then utilise this data whenever it is required without the need for repeated entry (e.g. APIS).
Saving preferences (e.g. for seat allocation).
Automatic seat allocation and check-in without manual input.
    Payment functions for excess luggage

All Materna check-in applications are CUSS-based and are user-friendly with intuitive menu navigation. Whether passengers check in at the kiosk or use their smartphones, the modern check-in application from Materna guarantees extreme flexibility.

Latest generation Self Bag Drop solution

After the successful installation of 27 Self Bag Drop systems so far in Munich and Frankfurt for Deutsche Lufthansa, this year, Materna is showcasing the automatic multi-function baggage solution at the show in Geneva. Home-printed boarding passes, excess luggage detection and handling, bag tag printing and RFID support are all, of course, part of the new generation of Self Bag Drop solutions. A recent SITA study suggests that passenger acceptance of luggage machines is constantly increasing. "Passengers using Frankfurt Airport are very keen on using self-service…..Frankfurt leads the way with the use of self-bag-drops, for example, as well as self-service check-in.“

Deutsche Lufthansa is also continuing to use automated baggage check-in based on Materna software. By the end of the year, the number of active systems in Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg should increase to 39.

Biometric facial recognition for increased security

Another highlight of this year's show stand will be the innovative Self Boarding solution which Materna is presenting in conjunction with its partner Gunnebo. “The plans are to add a biometric facial recognition function to the established Self Boarding application”, says Reinhard Augustin, Director Transportation at Materna. Biometric data recording not only improves secure access for the passengers, it also allows faster processing through the gate.
