ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, March 23rd 2014 [ME NewsWire]The MoI Child Protection Center has been nominated for two projects that have been listed among the final nominees for the World Summit Award (WSA), the global follow-up initiative of the United Nations World Summit on Information Society (WSIS). Both projects have previously passed the first and second levels of the qualification rounds.
The Child Protection Center is participating with two projects, among a total of 10 participating projects that are representing the UAE in the competition that includes 18 categories that are directly related to the summit framework. The projects aim to assert the importance of the international exchange of best practices, and encourage the participants to submit their projects at the summit as it is an integral part of the evaluation process.
The Child Protection Center is participating in the competition in the fifth category, which is concerned with “Building confidence and security with the utilization of ICT”. For this category, the Child Protection Center submitted the MoI Child Protection Center smartphone application; the “Hemayati” application. The Child Protection Center is also participating in the eighteenth category that is concerned with “International and regional collaboration” by submitting the project: “Organizing the 5th Biennial Virtual Global Taskforce (“VGT”) Conference” under the theme “Sexual Exploitation of Children Online and International Collaboration: An Enabler for Prevention.”
Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection, explained that the Ministry of Interior, represented by the MoI Child Protection Center, is committed to leaving its fingerprint on all regional and international events. The Ministry of Interior is keen on achieving entrepreneurship and excellence that each Emirati individual is working to achieve. Based on this vision, the MoI Child Protection Center is participating in the World Summit on the Information Society 2014 with two projects that qualified for the final stages of evaluation, which depends on public voting.
Major General Lakhrebani stressed that these projects reflect the institutional commitment to achieving the UAE Vision 2021. This vision is made up of four main elements: “An ambitious and confident nation grounded in its heritage”, “A strong union bonded by a common destiny. Following the founding fathers steps is underway and the government is striving to maintain national gains, sustained security and safety of the country, and establishing the UAE’s position on the international stage, are everyone’s ambitions”, “A competitive economy driven by knowledgeable and innovative Emiratis. This is clearly seen in the potential of the local human capital that is working on internationally leading projects. This taskforce crystalizes the highly productive economic knowledge that is based on innovation, research, science, and technology”, in addition to the fourth element: “A nurturing and sustainable environment for quality living. All segments of society, and federal and local institutions participate in the efforts of fulfilling this vision; this participation reflects the society’s commitment and unity approach.”
Major General Lakhrebani also said that all of the UAE’s participating projects represent the strategic development references that are emerging from the UAE Vision 2021, and the UAE government’s strategy. The projects also reassert the scientific approach in conducting benchmarking processes of developed services and projects. For its part, this reflects the strategic planning of these projects and services that share a common goal; namely: “improve the competitiveness of the UAE.”
For his part, Major General Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director General of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, said that e-services, electronic readiness, and the technological environment are the three main pillars of the adopted practices for these projects. He also pointed out that the UAE’s position has improved rapidly from the 99th position in E-Government (Electronic Presence) in the 2010 United Nations Global E-Readiness Report, and has reached the 7th position for the same criteria in the 2012 report of the United Nations Global E-Readiness Report. This rapid change, which is reflected in the general evaluation of E-Readiness of the UAE, has resulted in improving the UAE’s position from the 49th position in the 2010 report to the 28th position of the 2012 report, in addition to improving the country’s position in E-Participation. These standards are the basis of identifying the E-government readiness levels in all countries globally. The UAE’s position has improved globally from the 86th level globally in the 2010 report to the 6th position in the 2012 report.
Additionally, the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Interior has pointed out the importance of rooting the strategic message of the E-government that calls for the following:
“An innovative E-government that is committed to help improve the UAE’s competitiveness, and provide multi-channel world-class services that are based on the customers’ requirements. This vision could only be achieved via a competent cohesive government that utilizes an advanced digital infrastructure and qualified human resources within a smart framework of governance.”
Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Mohammed Al Shammari, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center, said that should the MoI Child Protection Center win this prize, it would be an important factor of enriching the police and security bodies’ experience internationally, in addition to the experience of the national ministries, departments, and institutions. It would also reflect the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to the actual presence on the international events’ map, and scientific, technological, and even research forums. He also asserted the importance of all segments of society’s participation in the voting process on the prize’s official website to show the highly respectable reputation and position of the UAE.
The Security Media Department has urged the public to increase its participation in the competition by intensifying the voting for both projects in order to raise their chances of winning the prize. The Security Media Department said that the submitted projects are receiving votes from all over the world. The importance of voting will be seen when the winning projects are referred to in the future as Emirati experiments that were pioneering projects internationally; this will significantly foster our dear nation’s position among the advanced countries in the world in terms of fundamental knowledge community and economy.
