Saif bin Zayed and Ahmad bin Tahnoun Attend National Service Lecture

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, September 2nd 2014

Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Major-General Pilot Sheikh Ahmad bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National and Reserve Service Authority at the UAE Armed Forces General Command, attended an educational lecture on the National and Reserve Service Project this afternoon, Tuesday. The lecture was delivered by Brigadier-General Mohammed Sohail Al Niyadi, Director of Strategic Planning at the National and Reserve Service Authority; and Brigadier-General Salim Juma Al Ka’bi, Director of Military Justice at the Armed Forces General Command; and was held in the hall of the Forensic Evidence Department at Abu Dhabi Police.

Following the lecture, HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed praised the efforts of the lecturers and those in charge of this grand, national project. “The growing number of the UAE’s sons and daughters who are voluntarily flocking to the registration centers reflect the inherent keenness of the UAE’s community to answer the call of duty. The community’s immediate compliance benefits the nation’s interests and enhances its dignity and poise in all means available,” HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed said.

His Highness also pointed out that the benefits of the National and Reserve Service are not only limited to the objectives in economic, political, security and social aspects. The individual also personally develops through fine-tuning skills, enhancing self-confidence, and exploring underlying and enabling capabilities. “The National and Reserve Service empowers young men and women in finding the best ways to build a bright and positive future which benefits the individual, the homeland, and the society alike,” HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed said.

“All it takes is the concerted efforts of all institutions and bodies, to contribute effectively to the success of this strategic and wise direction; so as to serve the public interest and make our country as a bulwark against all challenges and covetousness,” His Highness said.

The lecture focused on the National and Reserve Service, highlighting the relevant federal laws, and the conditions for national military service. The lecture also covered which individuals are subject to service; who is exempt from the terms and conditions of the national service; and the penalties for those who fail to perform. The lecture highlighted the importance of National and Reserve Service in achieving the national economic, political, social and security goals of the UAE. The lecture also emphasized the role of increasing unity, cohesion, and instilling the spirit of loyalty and belonging among the sons of the nation. Enlisting in service will develop the human being in multifaceted ways.

The lecture was attended by Major General Mohammed Khalfan Matar Al Rumaithi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Abu Dhabi Police; Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior for Resources and Support Services; and a number of other police commanders and senior officers.

For his part, Brigadier-General Mohammed Sohail Al Niyadi commended the joint initiatives with the Ministry of Interior and their participation in the committees that have been formed by the National and Reserve Service Authority during the inception of the project.  Brigadier-General Al Niyadi also commended the legal committee and its participation in the development of the controlling mechanism for people who did not enlist in the national service, and the participation of the ICT Department, the electronic link between the National and Reserve Service Authority and other entities.
