UAE Takes Part in 9th Conference of Heads of Training and Security Rehabilitation Institutions in Tunisia

The United Arab Emirates was represented by the Ministry of Interior at the 9th Conference of Arab Heads of Training and Security Rehabilitation Institutions. The conference, which commenced on Wednesday in Tunisia, is a part of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers’ activities. The UAE delegation included Lieutenant Colonel Khaled Abdullah Al Khouri, Police College Deputy Director; Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Nasser Al Baker, Director of Postgraduate Studies at the Police College; and Lieutenant Colonel Khaled Muhammad Al Khumairi, from Police College.

In his speech on the occasion, Lieutenant Colonel Khaled Abdullah Al Khouri, Police College Deputy Director, asserted that the conference plays an essential role in enhancing joint coordination and cooperation. He also noted that the education and training sector in the Arab countries has seen an unprecedented development, as a result of the wise vision of the Arab leaders and their continuous support for education and training as key pillars of development.

The conference tackled diverse topics, including the means of spreading security education in schools; and developing specialized training programs to counter the new and emerging forms of crime. Attendees also reviewed the Arab Trainers’ Guide, which includes guidelines for all security aspects.

In his opening speech, H.E Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Koman, Secretary General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, stressed the need to take new measures to empower and qualify police entities, in a way that enables them to keep pace with developments and handle eventual incidents efficiently. “The different developments taking place in the local, regional and Arab world call for implementing such measures,” he said.

H.E Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Koman also stressed the importance of fostering cooperation among Arab states in the field of security training, in order to produce highly skilled security personnel, capable of handling the new and emerging forms crimes and their innovative methods.

He also called for advancing cooperation between Arab training and security rehabilitation institutions; exchanging knowledge, expertise, and resources; and benefiting from successful international experiences in this field. He also emphasized the need to educate security personnel on all issues related to the culture of respect for human rights in police work, in order to enable them to cooperate with the public; and the need to understand the important social and humanitarian tasks carried out by the security entities, which contribute to reinforcing the partnership between the police and the community.

The recommendations of the conference will be submitted to the upcoming session of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers for discussion.
