AURAK Signs MoU with Hungarian University

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK), has signed a memorandum of understanding with Pázmány Péter Catholic University, becoming the Hungarian institution’s first partner within the UAE.

Dr. Szuromi Szabolcs, president of the Hungarian university, travelled to the UAE to sign the agreement alongside Prof. Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, AURAK president. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr. Szuromi, stated, “This is my first visit to the UAE and it is truly a pleasure to be here and to cooperate with an institution in this region. I am very much looking forward to developing a strong relationship with AURAK.”

Prof. Al Alkim echoed Dr. Szuromi’s sentiments, adding, “Agreements like this are of critical important to our overall vision. Cultural understanding is at the center of our university’s ethos. We recognize that diversity and multiculturalism are vital for tolerance, security and world peace, and I am extremely satisfied to see Pázmány Péter Catholic University becoming an official partner.”

The agreement promotes cooperation between the two universities, particularly in terms of student and faculty exchange to foster cross-cultural understand and linkages, as well as collaborative research.

Heather McGann, manager of AURAK’s Department of International Programs and Partnerships, also conveyed her excitement at the new relationship: “Dr. Szuromi has shown his willingness to work towards openness and peace and to build relationships with universities in the Arab world. For our students this partnership will allow them the chance to study in Budapest, Hungary for a semester or even two in one of the most vibrant cities in Eastern Europe.”

During his stay, Dr. Szuromi took the opportunity to meet the university’s faculty, staff and students. His visit was also conveniently timed in that he was able to attend the 6th annual AURAK Global Day, which celebrates the university’s diverse student body consisting of 49 nationalities.

Pázmány Péter Catholic University is a higher educational institution, run by the Catholic Church, based in the Hungarian capital of Budapest. Having been established in 1635, it is one of Hungary’s oldest and most prestigious universities.

AURAK is an independent, co-educational, state-owned institution of higher education that provides an integrated North American-style, undergraduate and graduate education, with a strong focus on the local indigenous culture.
