Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, January 4th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
The Criminal Investigation Department at Abu Dhabi Police managed to arrest an Egyptian man, in connection with the murder a Palestinian, whose body was found dumped in a street at Madinat Zayed in Abu Dhabi. Confronted with irrefutable evidence, the killer confessed his crime, which the police described as “horrific”.
The Abu Dhabi Police reported that the culprit, a 39-year old Egyptian national, a bakery owner, confessed to having repeatedly hit the 47-year old Palestinian man over the head with a brick, before setting the corpse on fire to conceal the crime. During the course of interrogation, the killer confessed to having killed the victim over financial and personal disputes.
“The Abu Dhabi Police, who managed to uncover the crime in record time, is still investigating the circumstances and motives behind the murder,” indicated Major General Mohammed bin Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Director General of Police Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, who strongly condemned this “horrific” crime.
Major General Al Menhali added that there are specialized practices across the UAE, for all kind of social or financial disputes resolution. This is designed to protect the UAE society against any unbecoming and immoral conducts that are contrary to the teachings and values of Islam.
The details of the murder were revealed by Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammed Borshid, Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, who said: “The CID was alerted by the Operations Room on December 30th, 2013, about a corpse discovered on a street at Madinat Zayed in Abu Dhabi. Police patrols and competent authorities were immediately dispatched to the scene. Preliminary inspection indicated that the burnt remains belong to an unidentified male victim, in his forties, with apparent wounds resulting from a blunt object. The crime scene was sealed off and evidence was processed. Fingerprinting allowed crime scene forensics to identify the victim, 47-year old Fahed K. T who worked for a travel agency.”
Colonel Dr. Rashid Mohammed Borshid continued: “CID profilers from the Psychological Crimes Section conducted their investigations, and managed to identify and arrest the culprit in record time. Faced with the overwhelming evidence, the killer Arshad G, (39 years old) a bakery owner in the Musaffah area confessed his heinous crime and to having mutilated his victim’s body beyond recognition, over personal and financial disputes. Investigations are still underway to determine the medical cause of the victim’s death.”
During interrogation, the culprit confessed to having recently established a joint business venture with the victim that has yet to be registered. Things got out of hand because of an AED 250,000 that he borrowed from the victim and was unable to settle. The disagreement heated and insults were exchanged over the phone, until they met after midnight on the day of the murder.
The culprit added that the victim tried to convince him to have sexual intercourse with him or a member of his family to exempt him from the debts; an offer that irritated the killer. Both men got into a fist fight and began exchanging insults in the vehicle, parked near the crime scene. When the victim stepped out of the car, the offender picked up a brick and hit the victim to death over the head, before fleeing the scene with the victim’s wallet and cellphone that he threw them over a bridge in Abu Dhabi.
