MoI Discusses Launching of ‘National Child’s Day’ Event with Educational Institutions

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Tuesday, January 21st 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Ministry of Interior represented by of the work team from social educational institutions and juvenile delinquents centers at the state level, discussed the idea of creating a national public event that would take place on a yearly basis every March. The event would be held countrywide, under the title “The National Child’s Day”. Additionally, a team specializing in legal advice would be established.

This discussion took place during the group’s sixth meeting, which was held at the Al Mafraq Juvenile Care Center at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, and was headed by Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Nehkairah, Head of Human Rights Department in the Ministry of Interior and Chairman of the Juveniles Care Center Steering Committee.

During the meeting, the unified psychological assessment forms project that was in the trial stages was discussed again, after being discussed in October 2013. The meeting also included feedback and recommendations that were made during this trial stage, in order to help finalize the documents. The work team also discussed the Child’s Rights Draft Law, the Juvenile law, and other issues relating to child care, public welfare, rehabilitation, and prevention efforts. The meeting concluded with a number of recommendations being made that aim to develop the quality of work in the fields of juvenile care and rehabilitation.

The meeting was attended by Colonel Dr. Abdullah Muhammed Bu Hindi, Director of Al Mafraq Juvenile Care Center; Colonel Dr. Jassem Khalil Mirza, Director of Security Awareness Department at Dubai Police and Chairman of the Juvenile Welfare Association’s Media Committee in Dubai; Dr. Huda Al Suwaidi, Director of the Family Development Department at the Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai; as well as representatives from various care and educational centers, the Ministry of Social Affairs, and the various authorities concerned with children’s affairs.
