Discussing Training Cooperation between Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols and the Saxon Ministry of Interior

Markus Ulbig, Minister of Interior of the German State of Saxony, who is currently visiting the UAE, praised the achievements of the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate in the field of smart traffic systems. He also praised the implementation of the comprehensive traffic safety plan that has contributed to the reduction in the number of traffic accidents and their resulting deaths and serious injuries. Moreover, the Saxon Minister of Interior commended the major development that he has witnessed during his current visit to the directorate, since his previous visit two years ago. He stressed that both parties share the same visions and that both can benefit from the sharing of experiences.

Ulbig made these statements during his visit to the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate. Ulbig met with Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, heads of departments and a number of officers from the directorate.

Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi welcomed the visiting minister and the accompanying delegation. Furthermore, he stressed the commitment of the directorate to promote cooperation with the Saxon Ministry of Interior, as well as exchanging expertise, experiences and applications in various fields of traffic.

Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi discussed with the visiting minister the means of strengthening training cooperation in various fields of traffic with a view to qualify human cadres in the areas of serious traffic accident investigations; traffic control and monitoring on external roads, and the electronic control systems. Both sides also agreed to coordinate mutual visits with the Saxon Ministry of Interior to leverage its expertise, so as to strengthen UAE traffic systems, with a view to instill the traffic safety strategy and improve safety levels on the roads.

Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi briefed the visiting minister on the efforts made over the past five years, which led to a decrease in the number of traffic-related deaths. He also presented a detailed explanation of the strategy’s six pillars (Engineering - Awareness and Education - Traffic Control - Health - Evaluation - Community Partnership). Furthermore, Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi highlighted the role of the community-based partnerships in promoting communication with the various segments of society, which will positively contribute in enhancing traffic safety.

Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi also briefed the visiting delegation on the efforts exerted with the partners to develop road specifications and keep up with modern traffic regulations; by drawing on international experiences and practices in the field of traffic safety. “This will contribute to delivering the target of zero-fatalities, as per the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, in order to safeguard the human capital, the pillar of this country,” said Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi.

After that, the minister and the visiting delegation toured the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate to review the services provided by the Customer Service Center, as per the best practices and standards of quality. They also learned about the smart traffic patrols equipped with the latest technical systems to enable it to track wanted vehicles, monitor offenders day and night while committing offenses with surveillance cameras, and exchange information and send it directly to the Central Operations Room. At the end of the meeting, both sides exchanged commemorative gifts.

It is worth mentioning that about 18 officers and non-commissioned officers recently participated in a training course on the preparation of traffic accident reports, monitoring offenders, controlling roads by radars, and planning traffic accidents in the German State of Saxony. The course is part of the training cooperation between the Ministry of Interior of the German State of Saxony and the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate. It aimed to develop human capabilities by accessing and benefitting from the experiences of developed countries.
