The Seventh Sports and Cultural Activities Event for MoI Staff Members Kicks Off

The Ministry of Interior’s seventh sports and cultural activities event, organized under the patronage of Lt. General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and under the slogan “Happiest People”, recently kicked off in Abu Dhabi.
Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Resources and Support Services, attended the inaugural ceremony of the 10-day event, which is organized by the Police Sports Federation for the Ministry of Interior’s sectors and departments’ staff members.
It is worth mentioning that six sectors are participating in the seventh sporting event for the Ministry of Interior’s staff members this year. These sectors are: the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Interior; the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Sector; the Assistant Undersecretary for Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs’ Sector; the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Resources and Support Services Sector; the Directorate General of Civil Defense; and the Police College. The events will include a variety of sports competitions including: the Seven-a-Side Football Tournament; the Seven-a-Side Beach Volleyball; the Tug of War Tournament; the Snooker Championship; the Pistol Shooting Championship for Men; the Pistol Shooting Championship for Women; the Pistol Shooting Championship for Officers; the Pistol Shooting Championship for Senior Officers; the Swimming Championship; the Bowling Championship; the Running Championship; the Electronic Football Championship; as well as educational contests for men and women and the Chess Championship for men and women. The event’s opening was attended by a number of police officers and representatives from the police sectors participating in the sporting events.
The sports competitions are being held in several places, including Zayed Sports City; the Ministry of Interior’s headquarters; the Police Officers Club in Abu Dhabi; Al Jazira Sports Club; and the Police College.
In his statement on the occasion, Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Resources and Support Services, stressed the MoI’s interest and commitment to organizing sports events, which are in accordance with the directives of the police leadership and reflect its belief in the role played by sports to build comprehensive police characteristics. In addition, he highlighted sports’ vital role in instilling self-confidence and the concept of honest competition among all employees of the ministry.
“The organization of sports events for MoI staff members for the seventh consecutive year by the Police Sports Federation reflects the sport events’ success over the past years. It aims to shed light on the important role of sports in enhancing relations and harmony among the brothers of one family,” he added. He also noted that this tournament aims to foster brotherly ties and create an atmosphere of love, unity and trust. “It also aims to lay a foundation for greater cooperation among employees of the Ministry of Interior and sports competition among the ministry’s staff members, so as to effectively contribute to developing their mental abilities and prepares them properly to perform their duties efficiently,” he continued. In conclusion, he confirmed his confidence in the Police Sports Federation’s success in organizing these events for the seventh consecutive time.
For his part, Lieutenant Colonel Aref Ali Al Rais, Chief of Sports Activities Section at the Police Sports Federation Department said: “Organizing the seventh sports event for MoI staff members is in line with the police leadership’s instructions regarding the need to dedicate attention to police sports, in order to develop and enhance it. This underscores the fact that practicing sports is a necessity, since it contributes to improving the level of services and tasks carried out by police members to serve society. It also represents a means for  acquaintance for all staff members. In order to implement these instructions and within the leadership’s keenness, the Police Sports Federation works hard to achieve its strategy and mission aimed at promoting sports among all police staff members in the state”.
During the first day of the tournament, the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister & Minister of Interior won against the Assistant Undersecretary for Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs’ sector with a score of 3 to 0; the Directorate General of Civil Defense won against the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Resources and Support Services Sector with a score of 2 to 1 in the Seven-a-Side Football Tournament which is being held at the Police College stadiums.
During the Seven-a-Side Beach Volleyball tournament, the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H won against the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Resources and Support Services Sector with a score of 2 to 0; the Directorate General of Civil Defense won against the Assistant Undersecretary for Naturalization, Residency and Ports Affairs’ Sector by 2 to 0.
Furthermore, the Directorate General of Civil Defense won against the Police College Sector with a score of 2 to 0 in the Tug of War Tournament that is being held at the Police College.
During the Electronic Football Championship, which is being held at the Police College, the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Resources and Support Services Sector won against the Directorate General of Civil Defense with a score of 2 to 1; and the Police College Sector won against the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H with a score of 3 to 0. In the table tennis competition, the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H won against the Directorate General of Civil Defense with a score of 3 to 0; and the Police College Sector won against the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Sector with a score of 3 to 0. In the Bowling Championship, the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H won against the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Sector with a score of 1343 to 1281 points; the Directorate General of Civil Defense won against the Police College Sector with a score of 1288 to 1051 points. As for the educational contests for women, the Police College Sector won against the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Resources and Support Services Sector with a score of 3 to 1; and the Directorate General of Civil Defense won against the Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior Sector with a score of 3 to 2.
The sports competitions continue for the third consecutive day, where the Pistol Shooting Championship will be held today at the shooting range at the Police Officers Club in Abu Dhabi, in addition to the Swimming Championship; the educational contests; the Seven-a-Side Football Tournament; and all sports activities.
