Visiting Thai Delegation Reviews MoI’s Anti-Human Trafficking Experience

A visiting delegation from the Kingdom of Thailand was briefed on the Ministry of Interior’s experience in the area of anti-human trafficking, and discussed a number of issues of common interest, as well as ways to enhance cooperation and coordination in combating human trafficking crimes.

Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Acting Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior recently met the Thai delegation at the ministry's headquarters on Wednesday. The delegation, which represents several authorities concerned in anti-human trafficking issues, was headed by Wanashi Rojana Fung, Director General of International Affairs at the Vice President’s Office. During the meeting, both sides exchanged experiences, information, best practices, lessons learned, and future challenges that countries face in order to combat human trafficking crimes.

Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Nehkairah Head of Human Rights Department, Ministry of Interior and Head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Committee, met with Mr. Fung and the accompanying delegation; stressing the importance of cooperation with Thailand in the efforts to combat human trafficking. He noted that the Ministry of Interior is exerting continuous efforts in this regard, “These efforts have been highly appraised and appreciated by the international community and human rights organizations”. He also highlighted the ministry’s keenness to combat crimes and eradicate them; so as to contribute to achieve security and stability in society.

Adding further, he said, “The Ministry of Interior and its various departments have made several local, regional, and international initiatives in order to combat human trafficking crimes; support the victims; enhance international cooperation and coordination with international, governmental, and non-governmental organizations, as well as the international bodies to help eradicate human trafficking and support victims”.

For his part, Colonel Ali Mohammed Al Shehhi, Deputy Head of the Human Rights Department, gave a brief presentation on the Ministry of Interior’s efforts to combat human trafficking and protect victims.

 Lt. Colonel Hamad Rashid Al Zaabi, Chief of the Anti-Human Trafficking Section, gave an overview of the procedures taken by the police for combating human trafficking. At the end of the meeting, commemorative shields and gifts were exchanged between both parties.

The meeting was attended by Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Nehkairah, Head of Human Rights Department, Ministry of Interior and Head of the Anti-Human Trafficking Committee; Colonel Khamis Al Ka’bi, Deputy Chairman of the committee; Colonel Mohammed Ali Al Shehhi, Deputy Director of the Human Rights Department; Colonel Hussein Mahmoud Al Awadhi, Acting Head of the Public Relations Department; along with a number of officers at the Ministry of Interior.
