Saif bin Zayed directs to promote student awareness of the dangers of drugs


Chairing the Higher Committee meeting for Combating Drugs 

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, August 24th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, directed the Higher Committee for Combating Drugs to intensify its efforts and achieve greater community coordination and cooperation with society and institutions to promote awareness of the dangers of drugs. The awareness shall be especially geared towards school students to foster the development of a generation that is aware of the risks of becoming an addict.

This directive came when he recently chaired a meeting of the Higher Committee for Combating Drugs at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters.

He added: “We must build strong dams, and contribute with the available resources to face drug challenges and dangers. We must dry its sources in order to protect our society from its potential tragedies." He urged for greater diligence and vigilance towards drug smugglers and to be aware of the malicious and new methods they employ to reach their criminal goals.

HH stated: “The UAE government with its legislative, executive, and judicial institutions is ready to support the plans and programs of the Higher Committee for Combating Drugs. The government is ready to support the activation and development of these programs in order to face this global challenge and reduce the harmful influence drugs have on the community.”

The Higher Committee for Combating Drugs discussed unifying strategic plans at the state-level with advanced working methods that keep pace with the requirements of the current age and the anti-drug sections work requirements at the international level, as well as the coordination with the concerned bodies in the country.

The committee also discussed ways to strengthen preventive and curative methods and the best humanitarian methods to deal with those involved with drug abuse. The attendees also discussed opinions and contributions that would strengthen anti-drug efforts in general. 

Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Major General Khamis Saif bin Suwaif, Director General of Criminal Security at the Ministry of Interior and Committee Chairman; Major General Abdul Jalil Al Asmawi, Director General of Anti-Narcotics Trafficking Department, Dubai Police and Committee Vice-Chairman; and Colonel Saud Al Saadi, Director of the Secretariat of the Office of His Highness the Minister attended the meeting. Committee members, and managers and heads of anti-drug departments in the Ministry of Interior and the police headquarters, as well as a number of officers were also present.
