Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Saturday, October 26th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters won the second position in the Arab Corporate Social Responsibility Award in the Government/Public Sector Institutions category on the Arab level; up from third position last year.

The Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, represented by the Social Responsibility Branch at the Diwan Department, was offered the award, during the celebration, organized by Arabia CSR Network at the Address Hotel in Dubai, to honor the winners of the sixth cycle of the annual award. The celebration was held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority; Chairman and CEO of Emirates Group; and Chairman of Dubai Airports, in the presence of a large number of officials from Government and Private Institutions.

The Abu Dhabi Police’s second place achievement comes in recognition of its diverse initiatives and societal practices in the service of the community. More than 100 local and Arab parties competed in the award.

Upon receiving the award on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, Deputy Director of the Diwan Department, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Khalfan Al Dhaheri said: “We are extremely proud to receive this award, highly praised and supported by the United Nations Charter.  This grants winners international recognition for their practices in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility. “The award also acknowledges our efforts in implementing international standards in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility, and of police leadership’s care and dedication to all society segments and categories.

Al Dhaheri also noted that the Abu Dhabi Police has managed, throughout the more than 5 decades of its existence, to assume its basic duties in law enforcement, to achieve security and tranquility in a modern social structure, based on its strategic plan that includes the Social Responsibility principle.

“The Abu Dhabi Police has been committed to spread and implement the sustainability concept, and enhanced its operations and activities commensurate with the Environment, Safety and Public Health criteria and standards.  It has also adopted several policies and initiatives, as an enabler to implement the Social Responsibility concept,” he continued.  Furthermore, Al Dhaheri added that the Abu Dhabi Police has established an organizational unit within its administrative structure called the Social Responsibility Branch, and prepared a specialized methodology for this end.

He indicated that the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ, as per the requirements of the social responsibility principle, has dedicated significant attention to its staff members and their families, by providing them with the best health, entertainment and training services. It also endeavored to rehabilitate and train people with special needs, to provide them with jobs and integrate them into society. Additionally, it sought to rehabilitate jail inmates of the Punitive and Correctional Establishments to prepare them to their release. It took care of inmates families, and tried to solve family issues amicably within its police stations before they escalate; and was instrumental in organizing several societal initiatives and events, and participating in humanitarian activities.
