HDBand™ from Geotrace Addresses Mission-Critical Marine Imaging Challenges
HOUSTON. - Wednesday, February 26th 2014
Geotrace Technologies Inc. (www.geotrace.com), an industry leader in high resolution exploration and production (E&P) solutions, today announced the success of HDBand™, one of the most versatile and flexible suites of deghosting techniques in the industry. Geotrace’s proprietary HDBand™ technology suite focuses on the recovery of low and high frequencies to produce cleaner, sharper and higher resolution seismic data, especially in marine reservoir applications.
“With HDBand™, Geotrace’s customers will have unmatched access to the latest industry technologies that attack ghosts in marine imaging,” said Bill Schrom, Geotrace CEO. “Eradicating these water surface frequency disruptions increases the resolution of a client’s imaging capabilities, giving them the highest quality data and leading to better informed decisions.”
Ghosting occurs when reflections from the water’s surface create notches in seismic imaging, and result in a resolution loss. Deghosting technologies thus help eliminate resolution damage and improve clarity in seismic data.
Geotrace’s marine deghosting techniques are purposely designed to be flexible and applicable at three key stages of a processing sequence: pre-imaging, post-imaging and post-stack for various streamer configurations at constant, slant or variable depths. A pre-imaging application can significantly improve the resolution for better velocity analysis and a more detailed final image, while a post-imaging application can be an efficient and cost effective solution, useful for AVO/AVA and inversion applications. The technology is also applicable before or after migration and can be used in post-stack mode. For reservoir characterization, a post-stack application can be the most cost effective - and often times the only - solution, particularly when pre-stack data is not available.
HDBand™ is designed to work with other techniques such as Q compensation and spectral whitening. Both can be applied to compensate seismic attenuation and improve the seismic resolution for structural and stratigraphic interpretation, inversion and reservoir characterization.
