Ajman Residency Honors Volunteers with the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS)

As part of “Aonak” Service

Brigadier Mohammed Abdullah Alwan, Director General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, Ajman, organized a ceremony to honor volunteers working with the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS). The honoring is recognition of their efforts in inspecting the Directorate General’s facilities for the service of people with disabilities and submitting detailed observations that can be implemented to improve to improve the services provided to this integral part of society. This comes in line with the “Aonak” plan launched by the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, Ajman in 2009, to fulfill the needs and facilitate transactions for community members, particularly the elderly, persons with disabilities and patients.

Brigadier Alwan indicated that a total of 84 individuals benefitted from the “Aonak” service, since it was launched in 2009, while a customer satisfaction rate of 80 individuals. Moreover, he emphasized that the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, Ajman seeks to implement an integrated plan in 2013 to develop the “Aonak” service. This includes adapting health facilities at the Directorate General for people with disabilities and providing safe evacuation means for this category; in coordination with the General Directorate of Civil Defense, based on the report submitted by the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) in this regard.

Brigadier Alwan also pointed out that the Directorate General is training its reception staff members on sign language to enable them to interact efficiently with people with disabilities, particularly the deaf-mute. It is also endeavoring to develop the “Aonak” service’s work mechanism, by registering all beneficiaries in an electronic database. This would facilitate interaction with people with disabilities, notably, to assess their satisfaction with the service, remind them of all dates pertaining to their transactions, and enable them to book an appointment with the competent teams assigned with completing their transactions from their preferred locations. Furthermore, the “Aonak” service provides a private car equipped with GPS to ensure quick response to the needs of the “Aonak” service beneficiaries from the convenience of their homes, as well as provide them with a special mobile phone.

It is noteworthy that as part of the “Aonak” service, people with special needs who visit the Directorate General enjoy the help of the reception staff members who complete the transactions on their behalf. They can wait in the reception area pending completion of their services. The “Aonak” service also provides a specialized team to complete people with special needs transactions from the convenience of their homes; and is the leading care provider in the Naturalization, Residency and Ports sector.
