Motorist accumulated AED 459,000 fines for 580 violations

Traffic Investigation officers from the ADP Traffic and Patrols
Directorate recently seized and impounded a four-wheel drive vehicle,
and referred the driver to the concerned authorities to await the
necessary legal action. The driver was travelling in a vehicle with
fake number plates, in an attempt to cheat radars, and had
accumulated AED 459,000 in fines for 580 traffic violations.
In detail, Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi, Head of Peripheral
Regions Traffic Department at Abu Dhabi Police indicated that after
processing surveillance footage from the Roads Surveillance Branch
(Radars) at ADP Traffic and Patrols Department, officers noticed a
discrepancy between the vehicle’s plate numbers and its registered
specifications. Moreover, the driver was wanted for committing
several speed limit violations at the Western Region. The footage was
transferred to the traffic investigation officers to take the
necessary action.
Al Bloushi continued: “The directorate formed a work team of traffic
investigation officers in the Western Region to as part of a search
and investigation operation to locate the erring motorist for
flouting traffic rules by driving a vehicle with fake number plates
in a bid to cheat the radars and dodge responsibility. He also noted
that the traffic investigation team managed to arrest the motorist
who resides in the Western Region.
Moreover, he warned motorists against tampering with vehicles’ number
plates data, or making new ones. Under UAE traffic laws, tampering
with a car plate is punishable with imprisonment for up to two years,
and/or a fine of AED 20,000. He also emphasized that control will be
intensified on external roads, to arrest motorists who conceal of
obscure license plates to cheat radars.
Furthermore, Al Bloushi pointed out that the ADP Traffic and Patrols
Directorate, in cooperation with the Air Wing Section, has started
sending out air patrols to be on the lookout for vehicles travelling
with fake or obscured plates in order to curb such violations. These
patrols also aim to ensure crowd management and keep watch for any
illegal gatherings of youths who perform dangerous stunts to curb
their reckless behavior and take the necessary action against them.
This is in keeping with the Abu Dhabi Police traffic safety strategy
to make roads safer and more secure, and reduce all causes that lead
to traffic accidents and their resulting deaths and serious injuries.
