ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, September 2nd 2013 [ME NewsWire]
The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Traffic Coordination Directorate General, launched a three-month traffic awareness program called “Back to School” to coincide with the beginning of the new academic year. The “Back to School” awareness program is initiated under the slogan “Students' Safety is Everyone's Responsibility.” This campaign is one among many initiatives launched by the traffic sector that aims to unite all segments of society to educate school students about traffic accidents. It urges them to abide by traffic rules and safeguard themselves against the dangers of the road.
The campaign embodies the Ministry of Interior’s strategy emanating from that of the Federal Government. It is also in line with police leadership directives to achieve the highest levels of traffic safety for all. It also falls within the traffic sector’s strategic plan at the Ministry of Interior, which is to promote road safety and curtail traffic and run-over incidents.
Colonel Nasser Ahmed Al Hosani, Deputy Director General of Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of Interior, congratulated the school boards in the state schools and the parents alike on the occasion of the commencement of the new academic year; he wished the students success on their educational journey.
“School students are a major component of human development that must be maintained. Despite taking all preventive measures to protect them from all dangers and hazards, there is a need for more awareness and guidance for parents and people in charge of children to protect them,” noted Colonel Al Hosani.
He added that the Traffic Coordination Directorate General at the Ministry of Interior conducts this campaign in cooperation with the traffic and licensing departments at the state level, as well as with the Ministry of Education, Emirates Transport, the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, and others entities concerned with traffic safety in the public and private sectors. Colonel Al Hosani also stressed the need for further awareness and guidance to promote traffic safety among all students and school bus drivers.
“The campaign aims to raise the awareness of all parties involved in transporting children. It also endeavors to raise the awareness of families and disseminate the traffic culture among children and urge them to respect it. The campaign will be launched across many media including radio, newspapers, magazines and TV channels, and the Internet. Moreover, media roundtables will be held, which will host a number of officials to communicate with the public about the campaign and traffic values and culture,” highlighted Colonel Al Hosani.
He also noted that the campaign’s theme: “Students' Safety is Everyone's Responsibility" will be posted on a number of websites especially chat rooms and online discussion forums. Moreover, campaign-related posters, brochures and leaflets will be distributed in many public places.
