MoI Urges Motorists to Observe Traffic Rules and Regulations

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, October 14th 2013 [ME NewsWire]

The Ministry of Interior called on motorists to comply fully with traffic rules and laws, and legal speed limits on roads to avoid traffic accidents and their resulting tragic injuries and losses during the blessed Eid al Adha holidays.

Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi, Director General of the Traffic Coordination Department at the Ministry of Interior stressed the need to comply with traffic police members’ instructions, and to drive carefully especially near commercial centers and markets. He also urged motorists to leave sufficient safe distance between vehicles; to avoid obstructing traffic movement by inappropriate parking in public parking spaces; avoid using parking spaces dedicated for people with disabilities or parking spaces allocated for civil defense and ambulance vehicles, so as not to impede their work in emergency cases.

“The traffic departments will focus on intensifying patrols on the various external and internal roads which witness heavy traffic during the holidays, to ensure a smooth traffic flow, reduce congestion and deal with potential emergencies that could mar the holidays’ joy,” noted Brigadier Al Zaabi.

Furthermore, Brigadier Al Zaabi appealed to motorists to observe legal speed limits on roads, especially the external roads witnessing a high-density of citizens and residents strolling and visiting family and friends across the Emirates.  He also called upon them to be cautious and to predict other motorists’ mistakes, and to fasten their seatbelts. He also advised motorists to prevent children under 10 years of age from sitting in front seats, and to keep them properly seated and buckled up in the back seats to ensure their safety.

Al Zaabi also warned against the risks of using mobile phones while driving whether to talk, text or chat. He noted that using mobile phones while driving is a legal offense for the great danger it poses to the life of the drivers and the other road users.

Concluding, Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Zaabi congratulated citizens and residents of the UAE on the advent of Eid Al Adha, wishing both Arab and Islamic Nations many blissful returns.
