(بزنيس واير): تعلن مجموعة "إيسيل الشرق الأوسط" ("إي جي إم إي") عن توقيعها مذكرة تفاهم مع "جنسورس بوتاش كوربورايشن" ("جنسورس") لتأسيس مشروع مشترك يركز على تطوير أحد مشاريع شركة "جنسورس" في مجال البوتاس في ساسكاتشوان، كندا.

وتُعتبر الاتفاقية مع "إي جي إم إي" استثمارها الثاني الكبير في مجال البوتاس بعد أن حصلت الشركة على ترخيص التنقيب في منجم بادا للبوتاس في صحراء الدناكل في إريتريا في أغسطس عام 2015. وتكمن أهمية هذا الاستثمار في كونه أول استثمار للموارد الطبيعية لشركة "إي جي إم إي" خارج أفريقيا ويمثل خطوة هامة في طموح المجموعة في أن تصبح شركة عالمية متنوعة للموارد الطبيعية.

Essel Group Middle East Announces MOU for 70% JV with Gensource Potash Corporation

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Essel Group Middle East (“EGME”) announces that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with Gensource Potash Corporation (“Gensource”) to form a joint venture (“JV”) company that will focus on the development of one of Gensource’s potash projects in Saskatchewan, Canada.

The agreement is EGME’s second significant investment in the potash industry after the company acquired the exploration license for the Bada potash mine in Eritrea’s Danakil Depression in August 2015. The investment is notable for being EGME’s first natural resources investment outside of Africa and marks an important step in the Group’s ambition to become a global, diversified natural resources company.

Under the terms of the MOU, EGME will provide business and logistic expertise and will deliver financing totalling USD 200m in two stages. The first financing tranche will fund the completion of the feasibility study that is currently underway and expected to be completed in Spring 2017. The second injection of capital will fund the construction of the project, which is situated in Gensource’s Vanguard area, within the Saskatchewan province. Gensource will commit its project execution team to the JV, which possesses the necessary technical experience of selective solution potash mining and specialized processing.

When construction financing has been committed, EGME will hold a majority 70% stake in the JV.

Takeda to Invest More Than 100 Million Euros in Dengue Vaccine Manufacturing Plant in Germany

This represents a major step by Takeda toward meeting important unmet needs in dengue prevention. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), dengue is the fastest spreading mosquito-borne viral disease. Forty percent of the world’s population lives under the threat of the dengue virus, which causes an estimated 390 million infections and more than 20,000 deaths each year around the world in people of all ages.

The new plant will provide millions of people with access to a medicine that addresses a huge unmet medical need. On September 7, 2016 Takeda vaccinated the first subject in the Tetravalent Immunization against Dengue Efficacy Study (TIDES). TIDES is now enrolling approximately 20,000 healthy children between the ages of four and 16 years living in dengue-endemic countries in Latin America and Asia. The study is a Phase 3 double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial of Takeda’s live-attenuated tetravalent dengue vaccine candidate. The study is evaluating the efficacy of the vaccine candidate to protect subjects against symptomatic dengue fever caused by any of the four dengue virus serotypes, regardless of age and whether the individual has previously been exposed to the virus. The study is also evaluating vaccine safety and immunogenicity, with two doses of the vaccine candidate or placebo administered 90 days apart.

أمريكية رأس الخيمة تفوز بجائزة الحرم الجامعي الأخضر

بمشروع يخدم البيئة

حصلت  الجامعة الأمريكية في رأس الخيمة على المركز الأول في جائزة "الحرم الجامعي الأخضر" 2016، تقديرا لتفوقها في المسابقة التي تم اطلاقها كمبادرة مشتركة من قبل  وكالة الامارات للبيئة –أبوظبي  (EAD)، وشركة بروج في 2014 .

وقبل صعودها منصة التتويج  خلال الحفل الذي أقيم في العاصمة أبوظبي حيث تم تسليم الجائزة  خاضت الجامعة الأمريكية منافسة المسابقة التي تعد جزءا من مبادرة " الحرم الجامعي المستدام " وتمكنت من التفوق على الجامعات المشاركة وعددها 14 جامعة من داخل  دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة .

أعرب البروفيسور حسن حمدان العلكيم، رئيس  الجامعة، عن سعادته بفوز الجامعة بهذه الجائزة قائلا: "يأتي صعودنا منصة التتويج كمثال آخر يؤكد التزام جامعتنا بالبحث العلمي المتطور مؤكدا أن ما تحقق يعد انجازا رائعا خاصة عندما نرى أن طلابنا يتطلعون بشهية مفتوحة  للمشاركة بنشاط مع أساتذتهم في مجال البحوث اذ أن الجميع يستفيد من هذا التفاعل العلمي المنتج، كما أنها فرصة لخلق المعرفة والحلول التي تعود بالفائدة على قبل المجتمع ككل ".

وتكتسب مبادرة "الحرم الجامعي المستدام"، أهميتها من كونها تغرس روح المنافسة في أوساط  طلاب الجامعات في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة وتدفعهم على تحمل المسؤولية  والحفاظ على البيئة  لاسيما داخل  الحرم الجامعي بصفة خاصة والمجتمع بصفة عامة.

قال البروفيسور موسى محسن، عميد كلية الهندسة في أمريكية رأس الخيمة ، "إن هذه الجائزة تعكس الجهود الشاقة المتواصلة التي بذلها فريقنا على مدى العام الماضي وان كان هذا ليس كل شيء ولكن يمكننا تحديد الأهداف التي على أساسها سنعمل من أجل مواصلة تعزيز التنمية المستدامة والحد من تأثير البشر السلبية على البيئة ".

من جهته أضاف الطالب أكثم الشعار عضو من فريق أمريكية رأس الخيمة الفائز " تعد الجائزة دليلا على تقديمنا مشروعا مقنعا يعكس الاقتراب من قضية تغير المناخ من زاوية مختلفة، وهي أن ننظر إلى التكيف مع ظاهرة الاحتباس الحراري بدلا من مجرد التركيز فقط على الطاقات المتجددة وعندنا الدليل على ذلك  فقد وجدناه في أشجار القرم في البلاد، والتي هي قادرة على امتصاص ثاني أكسيد الكربون والصمود في وجه آثار تغير المناخ، مما يجعلها حلا مثاليا لهذه المشكلة المزعجة .

AURAK Awarded for Best Green Campus in UAE

Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, November 30th 2016 [ME NewsWire]

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah has been presented with the Best Green Campus award for 2016, receiving the prestigious accolade at an exclusive ceremony in Abu Dhabi.

AURAK competed against 14 other major universities, all based in the UAE, for the award which was organized as part of the Sustainable Campus Initiative. The initiative was jointly launched by the Emirates Environment Agency — Abu Dhabi (EAD) and Borouge in 2014 with the goal of encouraging university students in the UAE take responsibility for the ecological footprint their respective campuses leave on their wider communities.

Speaking of his team’s success, Professor Mousa Mohsen, dean of the School of Engineering at AURAK, stated, “This award comes as a result of our continuous hard work over the last year. This is not the end however. We will set targets on an annual basis in order to continue promoting sustainable development and reduce the impact we have on the environment.”

Aktham Al Chaar, a student member of the team, added, “The project wanted to approach the issue of climate change from a different angle, namely to look at the adaptation to global warming rather than just focusing solely on renewable energies. We found that the country’s mangroves, which are able to absorb carbon dioxide and withstand the effects of climate change, are a potential solution to this problem.”

Professor Hassan Hamdan Al Alkim, president of AURAK, expressed his delight upon receiving news that the university had won the award. “This is yet another example of the fantastic work that is going on at AURAK. It is deeply satisfying to see that our students are being given the opportunity to actively participate with their professors in research. Everyone prospers from this arrangement, as they are producing knowledge and solutions which benefit society as a whole.”
