(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Regulatory News:

Cinterion, the global leader in cellular machine-to-machine (M2M) communication solutions and a Gemalto (Euronext NL 0000400653 GTO) company, today announced that its flagship PHS8 module has been integrated into the innovative 4G M2M router, “simpliFi™ by BrightSKY. Designed for both industrial and residential applications in a miniaturized, plug-in form factor, simpliFi leverages Cinterion’s module to provide simultaneous high-speed data and voice communications for up to 32 WiFi-enabled devices.

The Cinterion tiny PHS8 module is small enough for simpliFi’s unique power socket form factor - the router simply plugs into a wall outlet and it’s ready to use. Cinterion’s HSPA+ 4G technology provides the broadband speeds and high bandwidth necessary for simultaneous voice and WiFi connectivity for multiple devices.

Bluetooth™-enabled devices can also be connected, allowing for example, medical devices to send caregivers crucial data in real time, smart meters to cost effectively transmit important information to utility companies, or cordless home phones to be used for both voice calls and data communications over mobile networks. For devices without WiFi, simpliFi includes USB and LAN interfaces to provide cellular connectivity.

“For the first time, simpliFi combines Cinterion’s M2M-grade 4G performance and security with consumer simplicity, providing reliable, high-bandwidth communications in just minutes,” said Paul Kobos, senior vice president sales NORAM, Cinterion. “4G networks are quickly rolling out around the world and BrightSKY’s easy-to-use simpliFi router offers a solution to our modern hunger for wireless high-speed connectivity, especially in rural and developing areas that lack traditional infrastructure.”

“There are millions of connected devices today that lack wireless capabilities, relying only on WiFi or DSL for connectivity - from laptops to tablets to medical devices and more,” said Mark Hedstrom, president, BrightSKY, “Our simpliFi device, powered by Cinterion’s HSPA+ technology, provides true ‘plug-n-play’ 4G cellular connectivity for both wired and WiFi devices requiring a broadband connection. And PHS8's future-proof design ensures that simpliFi won't require expensive redesigns as new technology rolls out on global networks."

Note to editors

In addition to 4G HSPA+, the Cinterion ultra slim PHS8 module offers five band UMTS and quad-band GSM functionality for seamless global connectivity. Flexible Land Grid Array (LGA) surface mounting simplifies process manufacturing and reduces waste for improved cost efficiency. Full Type Approval (FTA) and pre-approval from AT&T and leading global Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) expedites the development timeline for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) offering a quick and cost effective road to market.
