Capital Police Team Wins the Capital Police Director’s Cup

After Defeating the “Police Operations” with Five Goals to One

The Capital Police Directorate team won the third Seven-a-side Football Championship for the 2014-2015 season of the Capital Police Director’s Cup, by defeating the Directorate General of Police Operations team 5 – 1, in the match that was held Sunday evening at Zayed Sports City Stadium.

Capital Police Directorate’s player, Yousef Akyudh, was awarded the title of Top Scorer for scoring 12 goals;  Nasser Al Habsi, of Capital Police Directorate’ team was awarded the title of Best Goal Keeper; Al Khalidiya Police Station team won the Ideal Team award; and Captain Hamed Al Dir’e won the Ideal Administrator title.

The final match, which coincided with the celebrations of the 43rd national day of the UAE, was attended by Colonel Rashid Mubarak Al Mesmari, Deputy Director of the Capital Police Directorate; a number of high ranking officers; the members of the higher organizing committee; the members of the sporting committee of the Capital Police Directorate; and the administrative, supervising and supporting bodies.

At the conclusion of the championship and on behalf of the patron of the ceremony Brigadier Maktoum Al Shareefi, Director of the Capital Police Directorate; Colonel Rashid Mubarak Al Mesmari, Deputy Director of the Capital Police Directorate crowned the Capital Police Directorate’s team with the cup of the championship and gold medals, the Directorate General of Police Operations’ team was awarded silver medals as it came in second place, while the bronze medals and the third place went to Al Shabia Police Station’s team.

The honoring included players who won the awards of the Top Scorer, Best Goal Keeper, Ideal Team and Ideal Administrator. The honoring also included sponsoring, participating and cooperating organizations that had a role in supporting and the success of the championship.

Colonel Al Mesmari stressed that the championship reflected a high level of cooperation, and it also gave a brilliant image of sporting activities. He said that it realized the goals of the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters who is keen on extending bridges of cooperation and communication with all sectors and supporting the social, services, creative and sporting initiatives.

He explained that this championship came as a reflection of the vision of the police leadership in shaping the police character of its staff who enjoy physical fitness, and building the confidence of the community. It also serves to establish the spirit of fair competition between employees, and strengthen the link between the police staff, and support the sports movement. He pointed that the championship achieved its most important goal which is social communication between employees.

The final match witnessed a strong competition between both teams, where the Capital Police Directorate’s team controlled the field and the first half ended with 3 goals scored in the goal of the Directorate General of Police Operations’ team.

In the second half; the Directorate General of Police Operations’ team fostered its striking attempts focusing on quick counter attacks that resulted in a scoring its only goal through a penalty kick. The Capital Police Directorate’s team retaliated and was able to win benefitting from the experience of its players after scoring two more goals. The last goal was in the last minute of the match, and the crowd cheered loudly after the final whistle of the match by the referee.

The championship was organized by the sporting committee at the Capital Police Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. The championship kicked off on 17 Nov. and will last for 14 days, with the eight participating teams representing both departments and police stations playing in the single round-robin tournament.

The participating teams are as follows: the Directorate General of Police Operations, the Capital Police Directorate, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Al Shabia Police Station, Al Khalidiya Police Station, Al Madina Police Station, the Investigations Affairs Section at the Capital Police Directorate, and the Secure Company.

The results of the final round were: Al Shabia Police Station defeated the Investigations Affairs Section of the Capital Police Directorate 7 – 1. The Secure Company defeated Al Madina Police Station 3 – 0 and the Traffic and Patrols Directorate defeated Al Khalidiya Police Station with a score of 5 – 0.

The championship was sponsored by Corporate Excellence Masters International (CMI) as a strategic sponsor; and Al Wifaq Finance Company, Abu Dhabi Cooperative Society, Eshraq Properties, and MENA Corp. and Al Noor Hospital as Gold sponsors.

The results of the first round of the championship were as follows: the Capital Police Department team placing in first with 15 points, followed by the Directorate General of Police Operations team placing second with 13 points and attracted the attention of football fans, who chose to attend the matches.

The championship comes as a part of the strategic objectives of the Directorate General of Police Operations and embodies its keenness to diversify the competitions; enhance communication, networking, and cooperation between the personnel; and to encourage the spirit of fair competition.
