The Fourth Ramadan-special Seven-a-side Football tournament of 2014 organized by the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense General Directorate kicked off at The Petroleum Institute, Abu Dhabi.
During the opening session, Colonel Juma Salem Al Dahmani, Acting Director of Abu Dhabi Civil Defense said that the eight teams participating in the tournament represent: Exterior Civil Defense stations, Interior Civil Defense stations, the Civil Defense Academy, the Petroleum Institute team, TAKREER team, Ports Security, Paris Saint-Germaine team, and Al Mafraq Police Department team.The ceremony started with the UAE’s national anthem, followed by a recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an and a speech by Lt. Colonel Hamad Al Riyami, Director of Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Stations Department. Lt. Colonel Al Riyami welcomed the audience and thanked the management of the Petroleum Institute for hosting the tournament. Wishing everyone the best of luck and success, he hailed the efforts of the tournament organizers, coaches and players, and urged each person to adhere to and commit to fair play, healthy competition, and to respect the referees and the calls they make.
Colonel Al Dahmani and Lt. Colonel Al Riyami shook the hands of the players of Exterior Civil Defense stations and the Civil Defense Academy teams. The competitions of the tournament kicked off with two matches, the first between Exterior Civil Defense stations and the Civil Defense Academy, which ended with Exterior Civil Defense stations team winning 3/2. The second match ended with Ports Security beating the TAKREER company team with a score of 3/0.
The inauguration was attended by Colonel Abdullah Rashid Al Zaabi, Head of Strategy and Performance Development Department; Lt. Colonel Hamad Saeed Al Riyami, Director of Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Stations Department; department directors; section heads; a number of officers of the Civil Defense Department; and Yaqoub Al Hammadi, Director of Sports Activities Department at the Petroleum Institute.
