During the Ramadan Council, organized by the Law Respect Culture Bureau at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, participants stressed that the culture of tolerance is deep-rooted in the UAE society. The council, which was hosted by businessman Ali Saeed Al Dahmani at his house in Al Munaee in Ras Al Khaimah, emphasized that such behavioral values compel us to show respect and clemency for others, as well as seek cooperation, understanding and fruitful and helpful work to contribute to the progress and prosperity of society.
Participants noted that tolerance in society is not just an advertising slogan, an image enhancement or a deceit for others, explaining it is a well-established and deeply-ingrained culture in society. "The family plays an instrumental and efficient role in instilling this culture and spreading it at a larger scale," indicated the participants.
The council noted that the spirit of tolerance is what prompts citizens to show hospitality and heartwarming welcome to residents or visitors to the UAE, regardless of their beliefs or nationalities.
The council, which elaborated on the issue of tolerance as national culture, was inaugurated by media figure Ahmad Al Tunaiji. In his speech, Al Tunaiji praised the Ramadan Councils, organized by the Ministry of Interior, as represented by the Law Respect Culture Bureau; stressing that convening such councils is an opportunity to submit and exchange views and to promote cooperation between the ministry and other society institutions in the UAE. He stressed that the UAE is an oasis of tolerance and understanding; an excellent example of this is the UAE Water Aid Initiative, which witnessed a wide response at the popular and institutional levels. Moreover, he added that the culture of tolerance in the UAE is touted by foreign media as an encouraging example, worthy of praise.
Ali Saeed Al Dahmani expressed his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Lt. General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, for the initiatives launched by the Ministry of Interior, and hailed the idea of the Ramadan Councils organized by the ministry in citizens’ majlises at the countrywide level.
He said, “These innovative councils advance concepts that activate the process of communication between citizens and decision-makers in the UAE and enable citizens to express their views and ideas about these topics openly and with full transparency.”
Al Dahmani added that the Ramadan Councils Ramadan held during the holy month of Ramadan play a significantly vital and active role in establishing communication and amity between community members during the holy month. He also pointed out that these Councils reflect an original approach; and are deeply rooted in the country’s traditions and usages. They have always been a tool to reunite members of society of all ages and categories, to discuss topics related to community affairs in all areas.
"Tolerance is a well-established value that was developed and practiced by the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It is a widespread approach applied across the UAE through numerous initiatives," he said; stressing that the policy adopted by the UAE to dispatch aid to the needy inside the country and worldwide is a testament of this methodology.
For his part, Ali Mohammed Al Dahmani praised the idea of convening the Ramadan Councils organized by the Ministry of Interior and their pivotal role in the service of society. He noted that the culture of tolerance, love and compassion is a well-established methodology in the UAE. "The UAE is home to more than 200 nationalities that live and work as one team for the service of the country. This is yet another proof of tolerance, appreciation and respect for others in the UAE," he concluded.
Salem Ali Al Dahmani gave several examples of tolerance in the UAE. He emphasized that tolerance is a noble value embraced by the Emirati people, and stems from their adherence to Islam values, and respect for their inherent customs and traditions. He also highlighted the higher leadership's keenness to pardon inmates of the Punitive and Correctional Establishments on national and religious occasions; a measure that embodies tolerance at its best. In conclusion, he called upon individuals to show tolerance in their behavior and urged social institutions to promote this noble value.
For his part, Abdul Aziz Ahmed Ismail, Director of Al Munaee School, underlined the importance dedicated by education sector to inculcate tolerance in students. He added that promoting the culture and value of tolerance, respect and acceptance of others contributes to enhancing the national identity.
Towards the end of the council, Saif Al Ghamdi indicated that laws and regulations in the country contribute to enrich the values of tolerance; indicating that many regulations were enacted in the UAE in order to protect some social categories, such as “Wadeema’s Law”. “Spreading and instilling tolerance is a shared social responsibility,” he concluded.
