Three Evacuation Mock Drills in Abu Dhabi Labor Camps


ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Friday, July 4th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Directorate General of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi carried out three successful mock evacuation drills following the outbreak of a fire at three different locations, notably the labor camps of Himaya 1, 2 and 3 at the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD) in Musaffah, as well as in Al Jaber labor camp in Musaffah area No.1 and Al Raha Labor camp in Musaffah area No.2. The workers were immediately evacuated and the fire extinguished.   The drills in the labor camps began when the Abu Dhabi Police Operations Room received a tip off at 9:00 am, on the outbreak of a fire. The Civil Defense and Ambulance teams rushed to the scene. The teams managed to contain the fire, extinguish it and prevent it from spreading to neighboring buildings in record time.   Lt. Colonel Hamad Saeed Al Riyami, Director of Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Stations Department supervised the evacuation drills. 

The participating teams included the Directorate General of Civil Defense, the Operations Department, the Civil Defense Center in Al Wathba, the Media and Public Relations Section “Customer Service”, the Directorate General of Police Operations, the Directorate General of Central Operations, the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols, and the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

Captain Majid Abdullah Al Tamimi, Chief of Media and Public Relations Section at the Directorate General of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi, stressed that these drills are in pursuance of the civil defense plan to promote safety in labor camps. “They also fall within the context of partnership with various institutions, aimed at providing maximum protection and safety, assess the readiness of the civil defense departments to deal with fires and accidents, and ensure compliance of various facilities with the necessary safety and prevention requirements,” concluded Captain Al Tamimi.
