Khalifa Student Empowerment Program Launches its First Drug Awareness Publication

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, July 20th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

The Khalifa Student Empowerment Program, at the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior (MoI), in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate General at MoI, has issued its first literary publications that aim to promote public awareness about the dangers of drugs and the experiences and recoveries of those who have battled drug abuse and addiction.

The first literary work is a collection of short stories entitled, “The Mother of Addicts.” The author of this collection is Amal Abdul Rahman Al Faqa’I, a social worker at the Dubai Police. The second work is a novel entitled, “The Beginning of the End.” The author is Malak Obeid and was written in collaboration with the Kalimat institution.

The short stories collection, “The Mother of Addicts,” presents a number of humanitarian cases from the author’s work experience. Some of these cases were with those who have used and become addicted to drugs and other psychotropic substances, or with those who have managed to recover from their addictions. The collection also narrates the impressions of the families and social environments of the addicts.

The author tried to access the inner psychologies of those who have gone through such experiences in order to identify the causes, and additionally factors the societal and familial roles with the results and implications. The author relied on a simple literary style which appeals to all segments of society.

The author of the second work, “The Beginning of the End,” tells the story of a university student who had fallen victim to this dangerous scourge. The novel describes how a young man’s acquaintances tried to help him out of his crisis, but he preferred to make his own decisions- which ultimately led to the suffering of others as a result of his predicament. After his experience with drugs, he ended up behind bars, and the dilemma deeply affected his parents and brothers. He was lost and had lost everything he owned.

For his part, Colonel Expert Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Al Dabal, General Coordinator of the Khalifa Student Empowerment Program, explained that the Khalifa Student Empowerment Program supervision and adoption of these two publications is a practical translation of the program’s goals and objectives. The program strives to foster and enable the role of society members in creating a preventive culture against all of the dangers and threats that might emerge in our society, especially drugs and psychotropic substances. “This can be achieved by opening efficient and constructive communication channels in order to invest in the capabilities and talents of the students,” Colonel Expert Dr. Al Dabal stressed. “This is the main objective of the program as it works to unite national efforts in order to build mindful students who possess the ability to face present and future challenges and dangers.”

Furthermore, Colonel Expert Dr. Al Dabal asserted that the Khalifa Student Empowerment Program calls upon all parties involved in the upbringing and education of new generations to be active in collaborating with the program and in presenting initiatives that promote the objectives of the program. The program aims to shape respectable citizens who work on fostering the position of the UAE in order to achieve leadership. “This vision emerges from the faith in society and their key capabilities and potentials in facing the dangers that threaten our students and youth,” Colonel Expert Dr. Al Dabal said.

It is worth mentioning that the Khalifa Student Empowerment Program, “Aqdar,” was launched as an initiative by the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. The initiative was to prepare a national awareness program that addresses students and encompasses all levels of education in order to find solutions for the problems that students face. About 50 ministries and federal and local authorities participate, in addition to governmental, civil, and private entities that take part in the program by coordinating their existing awareness programs.
