ETISALAT Demonstrates Commitment to Investing in Advanced Networks

More than 60% of the Fiber optic network already complete



ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, Monday, November 8th 2010 [ME NewsWire]:

Etisalat has significantly contributed to the country’s economic growth and success through the implementation of communications infrastructure of international standards and quality

“Etisalat has completed more than 60% of the installation of the fiber-optic network. The corporation aims to connect all households across the Emirates by the end of 2011, and make , Abu Dhabi the first capital city in the world to be completely connected by the Fiber-Optic Network”, said Nasser bin Obood Al Falasi, the Acting Chief Executive office of Etisalat.



In a speech at the Abu Dhabi Conference 2010, Nasser bin Obood said: “Etisalat is committed in investing in developed networks that use the latest technologies and innovations. Etisalat made great progress in upgrading its network in order to debut the region’s first and fastest connection speeds of 21Mbps earlier this year, utilizing the third generation 3.75G, which now provides downlink super speeds of 42MB per second. Etisalat is also working on providing fourth generation technology by next year”.



Mr. Obood pointed out that Etisalat plays a leading role in the ongoing enhancement and investment in the latest telecommunications infrastructure. The corporation continuously contributes to boost the UAE’s growth as a leading financial trading centre on a regional and global level. Etisalat was established after the formation of the United Arab Emirates and ever since, the company has put huge efforts in place to maintain its position as the region’s leading telecommunications provider by offering the latest technologies and innovations, while continuously adapting to meet the growing needs of businesses and ever-changing lifestyles of individuals across the country.



Commenting on Etisalat’s role in the region, he said: “Over the past few years, there has been a significant rise in the number of customers to telecom services. However, the market dynamics in the Middle East have also changed during this period, which has resulted in other sources of revenue and growth, including new business opportunities, such as mergers of telecommunications, media and other sectors. Despite the saturation in the UAE, Etisalat has been able to develop new sources of income through development and improvement of its network capabilities in order to continuously introduce new products and services.



The Chief Executive of Etisalat emphasized on the growing importance and use of data through mobile phones , and stated that there will be a dramatic increase in the number of Internet users reaching the one billion mark by the year 2012. This will ultimately create a 48% ratio of mobile Internet users and it is therefore essential for Etisalat to continue their investment in mobile networks.



He also added that Etisalat continues to invest in the next generation networks for mobile phones, and offers LTE fourth generation technology, which provides a speed of more than 140MB per second.



The Abu Dhabi 2010 conference is entitled Application of Vision, and is organized by MEED in cooperation with the Department of Economic development in Abu Dhabi. It brings together more than 350 speakers who are influential policy and decision makers, and presents strategic ideas on business and investment opportunities in the UAE.
