DP World Commends RTA For Supporting Strategic Supply Chain Infrastructure

New Dubai flyover celebrates distinguished relations between DP World and RTA

Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Monday, October 31st 2011 [ME NewsWire]

DP World has welcomed the opening of a key flyover across Al Houdh Interchange (near the Green Community) on the Emirates Road in Dubai, describing it as another significant project that enhances the strategic supply chain infrastructure

DP World also conveyed its appreciation for the timely completion of the project to HE Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman and Executive Director, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), during a visit to the RTA by a high-level team led by Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Group CEO, Port and Free Zone World, and Vice Chairman, DP World, and including Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, and senior officials.

The two parties discussed mutual cooperation, the RTA’s master plan to improve traffic flow in Dubai, and the Etihad Rail project to build a freight and passenger railway network across the UAE.

The Al Houdh Interchange flyover channels traffic from Jebel Ali Port to and from Dubai city and the northern Emirates, easing traffic especially for vehicles carrying containers and cargo.

The 2.5 km long flyover has five lanes, three of which are linked to Al Yalayes Road coming from Jebel Ali and heading towards the northern Emirates, and two-lane connectors to serve traffic in the direction of Abu Dhabi.

HE Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman and Executive Director, Roads and Transport Authority, said:

“The flyover across Al Houdh Interchange on the Emirates Road is a major part of two important projects currently in progress, with a cost estimated at approximately AED 1.515 billion. They represent the second phase of the plan to expand and develop the Emirates Road along the area from Arabian Ranches intersection to Al Houdh roundabout, and improve the Al Khail Road and Emirates Road intersection. RTA is keen to provide safe roads networks which are in line with comprehensive developmental plans, meet the requirements of increasing population, and encourage development and investments in Dubai.”

HE Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, Group CEO, Port and Free Zone World, and Vice Chairman, DP World, said:

“The successful completion of the Al Houdh flyover is a result of the shared vision between DP World and the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority to constantly invest in improving the supply chain flow in Dubai. We wish to convey our deep appreciation to HE Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman, RTA, for his personal interest in the project, which will contribute towards the sustainable development of Dubai as a trading hub. We congratulate the teams from DP World, UAE Region and RTA for their joint efforts in making this happen.”

Mohammed Al Muallem, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region, said:

“The Al Houdh flyover project is very important for DP World, UAE Region because of the direct benefits it delivers to our customers through savings in cost and time. The opening of the flyover in effect opens a seamless transport corridor for container and cargo trucks exiting Jebel Ali Port. This is another step towards optimising the supply chain infrastructure in and around Jebel Ali and enhances its overall efficiencies. DP World, UAE Region thanks the RTA for its leading role in bringing this project to fruition.”

The Al Houdh flyover project is part of the RTA’s Master Plan for upgrading the network of roads, bridges, crossings and tunnels in the emirate of Dubai.
