MPI Research Congratulates Dr. David Serota, Incoming President of the American College of Toxicology

--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MPI Research is pleased to announce that David Serota, PhD, DABT, Senior Vice President of Drug Safety Development and Senior Principal Study Director, will serve as the 2012 American College of Toxicology (ACT) President. Dr. Serota has been a member of ACT since 1981 and served a three-year term on the Membership Committee, a three-year term as Councilor, one year as Vice President, and one year as President-Elect. During his role as Vice President he chaired the Awards Committee, and most recently chaired the Program Committee as President-Elect. Dr. Serota received his undergraduate degree in pharmacy from Auburn University in 1969 and his doctorate in toxicology from the University of Tennessee Medical Center in 1976. After graduation he was an assistant professor in the School of Pharmacy at Washington State University for one year before deciding to enter the world of preclinical toxicology contract research, where he has held numerous scientific and leadership positions over the past 34 years. Before joining MPI Research in 1997, he served as Director of Laboratory Operations and Senior Staff Scientist at Hazleton Laboratories America (now Covance) in Vienna, Virginia, and Director of Toxicology at Southern Research Institute in Birmingham, Alabama. He has conducted and reported more than 1,000 toxicology studies during his career in the preclinical research industry. Dr. Serota is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology and is a 25-year full member of The Society of Toxicology, having served on both the Public Communications and the Placement Committees of that organization. He has given numerous presentations at a variety of scientific and technical meetings, and he is actively involved in presenting talks to students at local secondary education institutions on the role of and need for animal testing.
