HE Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Police and General Security, and Chairman of the National Anti-Drugs Council, called upon caregivers to teach children to refuse anything offered to them by strangers. He also urged them to be role models for children, especially in their daily behaviors and actions, stressing the need for parents to know where their children go and to talk with them about the dangers of smoking and bad company.
His Excellency stressed the importance of spreading awareness among the youth to deter them from falling prey to drug use and abuse. He emphasized the instrumental role of the family in preventing drug addiction amongst the youth.
Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim called for adopting an approach based on knowledge, understanding and communication. This approach focuses on educating children at an early age to refuse any inappropriate behavior; highlighting the negative impacts of such behaviors; as well as implementing the rules and regulations that teach children discipline, such as religious values, education and good morals; and providing the appropriate environment for children to grow up away from stress and problems that arise from marital disputes and family disintegration.
His Excellency emphasized the UAE government’s commitment and continuous attention to preserve the family entity, which constitutes the cornerstone of society and the key provider of human resources. He said: “The family’s unity and cohesion are the essential and solid component to society’s unity and cohesion.”
In conclusion, Lt. General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim called upon all entities involved in family and children protection to organize initiatives and lectures that enhance awareness about children protection against the dangers of narcotics and their negative impact on society. He said that the UAE government has provided the necessary resources to prepare the youth and allow them to unleash their potentials in a positive way that benefits their society. “The UAE government has dedicated significant attention and trust to the youth, out of its firm belief in their capabilities and essential role in elevating the country to the ranks of developed countries and achieving the UAE Vision 2021,” he concluded.
